Sometimes love letters aren’t composed of poetry and romantic lines, but rather of butter, spices and fragrant herbs. After all, what better way to serenade your better half on Valentine’s Day, than by cooking a meal for them made with love?
A romantic dinner for two at home, with easy to cook restaurant type meals, is more intimate than you’d think. You could have a candlelit dinner outside in your own garden or rooftop, under the stars, while playing some smooth jazz to give the night a little bit more of an amorous touch.
Now for the big question- What do I cook? Below is a handpicked selection of different cuisines that really sets the mood in emotion and flavour. A cold bottle of red wine would also complement your choice of menu.

This February, Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday so you have plenty of time to prepare your dishes! However, you can make the chocolate mousse, Bolognaise sauce and panna cotta in advance and keep them refrigerated. Other smaller preparations like making the hot garlic sauce for the zucchini fritters and marinating the prawns will also come in handy when done on that day, well in advance.
Alternatively, a pleasantly surprising breakfast in bed is just as romantic, if not even a little bit more. After all, there’s nothing better than waking up to a steaming cup of coffee or tea, a fluffy omelette and a kiss. This makes a good Plan B in case your significant other has already made reservations at a restaurant for dinner!
But whatever you do, be sure to add a little spice into your romance on Valentine’s Day, and not to mention a bit of butter and herbs as well.
