Tips from our Knorr chef on Mother’s day

Hats off (or aprons off!!) to all you mother’s out there. You certainly deserve all the honour and acclaim not only on Mother’s day but all year through.

Moms are ‘juggler’s and ‘multi-tasker’s’, so no matter how busy things get one of our main desires is to ensure that our family is able to have good flavourful food. The simple joy and satisfaction that we experience when we see the meal being happily eaten (and if lucky, a compliment to go with it!) makes all the hard work worthwhile!
My love for food and its creative process, led me to become a Chef and I understand that finding the time and energy to cook a tasty and nutritious meal at home may sometimes be difficult. Identifying with this particular dilemma I was inspired to share with you some practical, tried and tested tips that will help you minimize time in the kitchen but still produce food with loads of flavour and goodness. Less time spent in the kitchen will certainly give you more down time with the family.

  •  Prep in advance – Vegetables can be cut, meats can be marinated and stored etc.  Knorr Chicken powder which contains all the necessary spices is the ideal choice for a delicious marinade.
  •  Eggs in a jiffy? –Place the eggs in the 4 compartments of a toaster and close. It will cook in a similar time as a toasty. ( brush the toaster with some  Astra first)
  •  The Knorr ‘easy to cook’ Chinese and Pasta Range products deliver authentic, restaurant quality dishes in no time at all.
  •  Soups are a great way to include a variety of veges. Just add a Knorr soup cube and puree in blender. Healthy and wholesome.
  •  Most dishes require ginger and garlic. Grind a batch of it and store.
  •  No more grinding and pounding - Knorr Maldivefish Powder Mix is great for a quick pol sambol or lunu miris.
  •  Easy breakfast/ dinner option- pre make the meat or veg patty and freeze. Fry when needed and enjoy a home- made burger.
  •  Dehydrate juicy fruits such as apples, mangoes, pears and grapes in the oven or microwave and store in jar for a healthy snack.
This Mothers’ Day I would like to leave you with a quote that speaks of all that matters to me personally … and my hope is that cooking will not be a chore but a privilege.
‘The table is a meeting place, a gathering ground, the source of sustenance and nourishment, festivity, safety, and satisfaction. A person cooking is a person giving: Even the simplest food is a gift’- Laurie Colwin
