Vegetable Dum Biriyani

Delicious and aromatic layers of long grain basmati rice together with a variety of spiced and flavoured vegetables.

  • 500g Basmathi rice cooked
  • 150g carrot, cubed
  • 100g cauliflower florets
  • 150g potato, cubed
  • 100g beans cut in to 1 inch pieces
  • 150g bell pepper of your choice
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 packet Knorr Biriyani Mix
  • 150g onions, sliced
  • 150g tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic
  • 1-2 green chilies, sliced
  • Rampe
  • Curry leaves
  • Ghee
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 20g Astra
  • A handful of mint leaves
  • 100g fried onion to garnish
  • 200ml water to cook
  • ½ teaspoon salt


  • In a pot add Astra and ghee. The add ginger, garlic, green chili, rampe and curry leaves. Sauté till fragrant. Add onion and tomatoes and sauté for a few more minutes. Then add all the vegetables and sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add Knorr Biriyani Mix, chili powder and curd. Add water and cook till vegetables are done. Add mint leaves and fried onion. Mix well.
  • In a casserole dish or in a rice cooker add a portion of the cooked rice as a layer and on top add the vegetable mixture. Continue till all the rice and vegetables are layered. Cover with lid and let it stand in the ‘warm’ stage. Serve hot.
  • Chef’s Tip:

    Add cashew nuts for more flavor.
